Nike is continuing to push boundaries in retail with the opening of its Laguna Beach. While the shop opened quietly earlier this month, without the fanfare we’d expect from a company first: Never before have all of the company’s action-sports brands (Nike 6.0, Hurley, Converse, and Nike SB) been together under one roof. From the look of it, they’re getting along just fine. The store’s design is more Oregon-rustic—a nod, perhaps, to Nike’s Beaverton HQ—than L.A.-cool, with weathered wood floors and hanging bikes. The product design is, in part, up to you: The on-site “Workshop” allows buyers to customize their Nikes, Converse, or Hurley board shorts with graphics and color combinations.
